About University…

Grodno is one of the oldest cities on the territory of modern Belarus. It is situated in the western part of the country on both banks of a picturesque river Neman. Nowadays its population is over 360 thousand people. There are a lot of industries producing fertilizer, synthetic fibers, processed foods, and tobacco.

Grodno has many historic buildings of great interest: the Old and the New castles, the Kolozha Church (one of the oldest working churches in Belarus), Lutheran church (the only acting in Belarus), Cathedral Church of St. Francisk Ksavery, Drama and Puppet theatres, and many others.

Grodno State Agrarian University is one of the leading institutions of higher education in the region. It was founded in 1961. Thousands of students study at the 7 faculties of the university, including foreign students. Besides, it offers some specialties taught in the English language. Students are provided with hostels and actively participate in the social life of the university.

Educational Establishment “Grodno State Agrarian University” is the largest educational and scientific centre of the Western region of Belarus. It was founded in 1951. More than 26,000 specialists have already graduated from the University and about 50,000 managers and experts of the agro-industrial sector got their professional development and fulfilled their training and qualification improvement courses here.

The University has developed and introduced a quality management system in the National STB ISO 9001-2009 and German DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 systems.

At present, the University trains specialists at 8 faculties and in 11 specialties of agricultural, engineering, technological and economic profiles. Innovative methods and educational technologies (modern information bases) are used here.

Grodno State Agrarian University carries out several joint educational and research projects thus providing the University scientists, teachers, and students with a unique opportunity to experience and scientific information exchange. The geography of the partner universities and research centers is quite wide. We cooperate with agro-industrial and educational institutions of England, Germany, Denmark, Holland, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Finland, Switzerland, etc.

More than 340 teachers work at the 32 university chairs. Over 50% of the academic staff has scientific degrees of Candidate of sciences or Doctor of sciences. About 8000 young people study at Grodno State Agrarian University today. The University created excellent conditions for uninterrupted and second higher education. The Agrarian University trains academic personnel of high qualification. We offer magistracy, postgraduate and doctoral studies. The Dissertation Defence Council works successfully here.

Enrollment procedure of foreign applicants to GSAU

The procedure of enrollment to the university when you get the entrance student’s visa and arrive in Belarus is the following:

sign the studying Agreement;

pay tuition fee and other expenses;

issuing the order on admission to the university.

Necessary documents for registration after arrival

After issuing an order on your enrollment to GSAU you will have to get temporary registration (temporary residence permit) for the period of your stay in the Republic of Belarus.

To get registration at the place of stay/residence you should contact the International Cooperation Department (the main building of GSAU, ground floor, room № 1) and provide the following documents:

1) passport;

2) migration card;

3) 4 photos;

4) insurance policy valid for one year;

5) the Residential Lease Agreement (you can get it in the Dean’s Office);

6) receipt of payment of state duty for registration.

NOTICE: foreign applicant must bring their passport for the registration process maximum of 5 days after his/her arrival to the Republic of Belarus.

Tuition

The Educational Institution “Grodno State Agrarian University” offers international students the training programmes of pre-University preparation (Preparatory Department), principal (I stage of higher education, bachelor’s degree) and postgraduate (Master and Ph.D. programmes) education.

Pre-University training

Studying at the pre-University training programme is conducted at the Preparatory Department in the following profiles:

1. Economic profile;

2. Biological profile.

The academic year lasts from September 1 to June 30.

After finishing the Preparatory Department the foreign students will get a certificate of completion of the Preparatory Department, which gives the right to continue studies at higher education programmes of the I and the II stages, as well as a Ph.D. programme.

I stage of higher education (bachelor’s degree)

Training at the first stage of higher education (bachelor’s degree) is offered in the following specialties:

The duration of training is 4-5 years. Upon completion of training, a Diploma of higher education of international standard is issued.

II stage of higher education (Master programme)

Training at the II stage of higher education (Master programme) is offered in the following specialties:

Studying starts on September 1.

Upon completion of training, a Master’s degree Diploma is issued.

Postgraduate education (Ph.D. programme)

Training of highly qualified specialists at the University is carried out on 8 specialties:

The Ph.D. programme is one of the stages of postgraduate education aimed at the training of scientific personnel of higher qualification with the awarding of the academic degree of Candidate of Sciences.

Training at the Ph.D. programme is realized in full-time or correspondence forms.

After finishing the Ph.D. programme a document is issued, which defines the readiness to defend the thesis for the scientific degree of Candidate of Sciences.

Grodno State Agrarian University Tuition Fee

The full tuition fee and the housing fee must be paid by the foreign citizen personally on the University’s bank account just after arriving.

Please, get acquainted carefully with studying prices in GSAU for 2017/2018 studying year. It is worth to know that studying costs are established by the GSAU rector every year.

Tuition fee at the faculty of Pre-university training is $1800.

Cost of Accommodation

The cost of living in the hostels is $870 for ONE academic year.

Foreign students may wish to rent a private apartment. The minimum cost of renting an apartment in Grodno is $200 a month.

Accommodation and Leisure Time

The educational institution “Grodno State Agrarian University” provides all international students places in hostels.

GSAU has 7 student hostels at disposal. Foreign students, studying at the Preparatory Department, live in the hostel №7. Every faculty has its own hostel attached. All the necessary conditions for a comfortable stay are created there: equipped kitchens, showers, restrooms, and self-studies.

Check-in at the hostel

To check in the dormitory foreign students must contact their Dean’s office to sign the Residential Lease Agreement after arrival.

In the hostel you will get:

1) pass in the hostel;
2) bed linen;
3) the keys to the room/unit.

Leisure time

University creates conditions to keep a healthy lifestyle and to lead an active social life.

Belarus at the place of residence of a foreign applicant (for visa countries) and a letter to inform the applicant (for visa-free countries).

Education Requirements for Student Visa

In order to study in Belarus, you must have completed a secondary level education and be in possession of a leaving certificate that confirms that you are eligible to apply for university.

Additionally, if you wish to be accepted for postgraduate studies in Belarus, you will need to present an undergraduate diploma from a Belarusian institution or an overseas equivalent. You must present a notarized copy of your foreign certificate. 

Arriving in Belarus

To come in the Republic of Belarus foreign applicants have to get an invitation to study (for citizens with visa regime). To get an invitation to study you have to provide documents as follows during your application:

1) Translation copies (in case the documents are not in Russian) of the documents with supplements of the studied subjects and the marks given (secondary education certificate/higher education diploma and its supplements);

2) Passport copy valid for the time of studies with the translation into the Russian language (in case the document is not in Russian). 

When your documents are submitted, the members of the International Cooperation Department will prepare the invitation which will be approved by the Subdivision of Citizenship and Migration.

All documents executed in a foreign language (except English) shall be accompanied by their translation into Russian. Translation of all documents must be notarized.

In order to apply for a student visa in Belarus, you will need to submit several documents. These documents include:

1. One duly completed visa application form

2. One photograph, which meets the following requirements:

not older than 6 months

size 35×45 mm

full face (70-80 % of the picture) without sunglasses, hat or other head covering unless for ethnic or religious reasons

plain, evenly lit and light background

high resolution

no corrugation or ink is allowed

3. A valid original passport or travel document which

contains a photograph of the owner

has at least two blank pages intended for visas

is valid for at least 90 days after the expected departure date from the Republic of Belarus

is not dubious in terms of authenticity or ownership

contains no torn pages, marks, entries, erasures and corrections that are not certified by the issuing authorities of the respective foreign state

4. An original letter of invitation from an organization/educational institution, verified by the local office of the Citizenship and Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, for a period specified in the invitation.

5. Additional documents

if the applicant is under 18 years old – a copy of Birth Certificate and copies of passports of the applicant’s parents (legal representatives)

if the applicant previously had Russian or Belarusian citizenship, a document certifying the loss of the Russian or Belarusian citizenship must be submitted to the Embassy

Health Insurance Requirement

International students who study in Belarus will need to obtain a doctor’s certificate confirming that they can freely undertake study in the field of their choice. You will also need to be insured for the duration of your stay in Belarus.

Rules of stay of foreign citizens residing in the territory of the Republic of Belarus

Foreigners residing in the Republic of Belarus must have a valid document for travel abroad (passport), migration card and other documents that prove that these foreigners reside (live) in the Republic of Belarus on legal grounds, and to present them at the request of officials of the bodies of internal affairs, state security and the border service of the Republic of Belarus.

In the territory of the Republic of Belarus foreign citizens and stateless persons are obliged to:

register within five (5) days (except Sundays, public holidays and public holidays established and announced by the President of the Republic of Belarus as non-working) at the Interior authority at the actual place of temporary residence;

reside in the Republic of Belarus in the abiding place (where they are registered at the migration department) only;

register within five days in case of the address change (except Sundays, public holidays and public holidays established and announced by the President of the Republic of Belarus as non-working) at the organ

of registration at the new place of residence;

In the absence of legal grounds for continued stay in the Republic of Belarus, foreigners are required to leave the Republic of Belarus before the end of the period of temporary stay or residence.

Contact the International Student Office at your educational institutions on the matter of registration, renewal of registration and other issues concerning residence in the Republic of Belarus in advance.

Violation of the above mentioned legal regulations punishable by paragraph 1 of Article 23.55 of the Administrative Offences Code of the Republic of Belarus with the imposition of sanctions: a warning, imposing a fine of up to fifty base units or deportation.

Reduction the period of temporary stay or cancellation of a permit for temporary residence in the Republic of Belarus, followed by deportation or expulsion from the Republic of Belarus might be in the case of the repeated violations by a foreign national or a stateless person of the regulations of criminal, administrative and other legislation of the Republic of Belarus.
