The great Francisk Skorina Gomel State University was established as far back as 1929, when the USSR took the decision to start an agro-pedagogical university in Gomel. In accordance with the CEC of Belarus. Francisk Skorina Gomel State University is a leading university of Belarusian Polesye that was recognized by the national and world scientific community.

The University is known for its high educational potential being one of the largest research and development, academic and cultural centers of the Republic of Belarus. 1360 employees work at Francisk Skorina Gomel State University today, including the teaching staff (without part- time employees) – 587. Among these there are 44 Doctors of sciences, 33 professors, 242 candidates of sciences, 216 docents. Of these, there are 4 correspondent members of the National Academy of Science (A.V. Rogachev, A.N. Serdyukov, G.G. Goncharenko, V.F. Baginsky).

Master’s degree programme is available for 22 specialities, post-graduate – for 46 specialities and doctorate – for 6 specialities. The university has 3 dissertation defense councils in four specialties, including the doctoral one. The main forms of scientific activity of GSU involve implementation of fundamental, applied and contractual research works; organization and conduct of scientific conferences and seminars; training of highly qualified scientific personnel; organization and management of students’ science; exhibition and information activities on promotion of science through the media; invention and innovation; publications of scientific literature (monographs, journals, collections of articles and abstracts).

All fees including, tuition, accommodation and any other expenses once paid to the university’s account are non-refundable. However, should an international student be denied visa at the embassy, his or her payments to the university will be refundable. To help them pursue their dream elsewhere.

The Belarusian President’s Special Fund

The president of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko signed off on a new initiative of the Council of the Special fund for social support specifically for talented and gifted students with funds from the national budget.

Below are the application requirements necessary to receive an invitation letter to study at the Gomel State University of Belarus:

Undergraduates

Applicants are expected to have completed secondary or senior high education.

Notarized Scanned copy of legal travel passport (with a translation into Russian or English language, notarized);

Scanned copy of the document on education (certificate) with indication of the studied subjects and the marks (points) received on them on examinations with the translation into Russian or English certified by the notary.

All the students coming for studies must pass an interview in Russian after arrival (even from the Russian-speaking countries, like Turkmenistan). Foreign citizens who are not able to successfully pass an interview in the Russian language will be given admission to the preparatory Department. This course is compulsory even for those who is going to choose a course of studies in English after the Prep Department;

For minors, a copy of the birth certificate with a Russian or English translation (if the document is not in Russian or English).

For minors: power of attorney from parents for the right to enter into a contract of study and a contract of employment for accommodation in a hostel certified by a notary by a minor son or daughter.

English Language Proficiency

It is optional for all international students and applicants to produce a certificate of English Language Proficiency. However, for countries which do not have English Language as their official language, it is required for those courses taught in English that candidates produce evidence of English Language Proficiency.

Anyone of the criteria Below:

        An IELTS average score of about 5.0

        Internet based test score of at least 40 in TOEFL.

        The Pearson Test of English Academic of at least 38.

        A Senior High School leaving certificate or equivalent certificate with English the language of instruction.

        A higher education or degree no shorter than 2 years duration, in which English language is the main language of instruction.

The admission process at the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University are all straight forward and are broken down into three easy to follow steps for any international applicant to follow through.

STEP 1 – APPLYING FOR ADMISSION

As a general requirement for admission, applicants are expected to fill and submit an application form along with the various supporting documents. Please find details below:

STEP 2 –  ADMISSION CONFIRMATION

Once the applicant receives the Certificate of Admission, they are expected to begin the process of confirming their admission and obtain a visa to travel to Belarus. An international student is also expected to undergo the following processes:

Obtain visa to travel to Belarus.

Arrive in Belarus

Pass a medical examination

Sign a contract for training

Pass an interview in Russian

Pay tuition fees

Purchase health insurance

Obtain a residence  permit for the period of study.

First, Requirement for Letter of Invitation.

—- Only one intake per year (September) — Deadline for application September 15 but the earlier the better.

—- The copy of the document on education (certificate) with indication of the studied subjects and the grades (points) received on them on examinations with the translation into Russian or English certified by the notary.

—- The copy of your academic transcript with indication of the studied subjects and the marks (points) received on them on examinations with the translation into Russian or English certified by the notary.

—- A copy of the passport or any other identity document with a translation into Russian or English language, notarized. 
The invitation is issued in two weeks.

—- For minors (less than 18 years old) – a copy of the birth certificate with a translation into Russian (if the document is not in Russian).

The invitation is issued within 2 – 3 weeks.

All documents executed in a foreign language (except English) shall be accompanied by their translation into Russian. Translation of all documents must be notarized.

Second, Travel with or without Visa

Travel with Visa — Visa for study is issued in the consular Department of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus at the place of residence of a foreign citizen.

Travel without Visa — If the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus is not in your country of residence visa can be obtained at the consular office of the national airport Minsk.

The university will sends an official invitation to study at the consular office of the Republic of Belarus at the place of residence of a foreign applicant (for visa countries) and a letter to inform the applicant (for visa-free countries).

Document language:

All documents executed in a foreign language (except English) shall be accompanied by their translation into Russian. Translation of all documents must be notarized.

Having received a visa (or without a visa, you arrive in Belarus by plane or train.

If by plane, from the Airport you can take a bus or taxi (about 50 kilometers) to the railway station in Minsk. From Minsk to Gomel by train.

From the railway station of Gomel to the University to get trolley bus number 1 or number 15 to stop “University” (Sovetskaya str., 98, K. 1-15) or to stop “hotel “Tourist” and walk to the hostel on the street Kirov,122A.

Please inform us of your flight ticket date of travel and arrival (3 days before departure) the visa and the date of arrival.

Third, Temporary Country Registration

—- After arriving in the country, the applicant must register with the Migration service and an interview in Russian (if there is no certificate of completion of the faculty of pre-University training, preparatory Department, preparatory courses of universities).

—- A foreign citizen who was unable to appear for an interview on the prescribed day for a valid reason (illness or other unforeseen circumstances that prevent participation in the interview, documented), by the decision of the selection Committee is allowed to participate in the interview on another day within the time limits set by the schedule of the interview.

—- Admission of foreign students to study is made after the interview in the Russian language. Foreign citizens who have not been able to successfully pass an interview in the Russian language will have to take the preparatory course. (the applies whether your degree program is taught in English or not.

—- Registration Upon arrival in the Republic of Belarus, a foreign citizen is obliged to register in the Department of citizenship and migration within 5 working days. The cost of registration – 24,50 Belarusian rubles (the first registration is put on the validity of the visa)… (subject to change at any time).

Fourth, Temporary Residence Permit

After registration of the contract for training and issuing an order for admission, a foreign citizen will have to obtain a temporary residence permit for the period of stay in the Republic of Belarus.

The cost of a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Belarus is 73.50 Belarusian rubles (subject to change at any time).

Obtain some of these documents and Submit all of these document to the international office of your university.

— foreign passport with a visa to study;

— health insurance (except for citizens of Armenia, great Britain, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan).

— translation of the passport certified by a notary;

— receipts for payment of state duty for registration.

The territorial division for citizenship and migration issues a residence permit within 15 days.

Fifth, Registration in the University

After arriving in the Republic of Belarus, foreign students will have to go through the procedure of:

—- registration into their university,

—- settle in a hostel

—- undergo a medical examination in any government clinic in the city 

—- get a temporary registration

—- in the future – a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Belarus for the period of your study at the University.

On the day of arrival of a foreign applicant in the Republic of Belarus, the University provides a place in a hostel.

Step 1. Come to the international relations Department of the state University named after Francis and present the following documents:

—- Letter of Invitation

—- Passport with a visa to enter the Republic of Belarus for study (visa countries) or a valid registration (temporary stay or residence while on the Belarusian territory).

—- notarized copy of translation into Russian of foreign passport;

—- the originals of documents about education;

—- Document on education (certificate) & Transcript with indication of the studied subjects and the marks (points) received on them on examinations with the translation into Russian or English certified by the notary.

—- Government issued Birth certificate with notarized translation into Russian or English.

—- Certificate of completion of the preparatory Department (for applicants for 1 course).

—- notarized copy of translation into Russian language of documents on education;

—- Certificate of absence of HIV infection from residence country government hospital with translation into Russian or English, certified by a notary.

—- 6 photos (3×4) & 6 photos (size 4 x 6);

—- Medical certificate issued by the official health authority of the host country, indicating the absence of medical contraindications to study in the Republic of Belarus and vaccination card, with translation into Russian or English, notarized.

—- health insurance (except for citizens of Armenia, great Britain, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan).

—- undergo a mandatory medical examination;

—- to arrive in the Republic of Belarus during the introductory interviews (till October 15);

—- If a foreign citizen does not pass an interview in Russian, he can be enrolled in the preparatory Department for a period of 1 academic year.

Step 2. Pass an interview in the Russian language (in the magistracy – on the profile subject). The interview is in Russian language when applying for a specialty, open for learning Russian language. The interview is held in English for admission to the specialty, open for training in English.

Step 3. Sign a contract for training and pay for training. Tuition is paid in Belarusian rubles in accordance with the contract for training / admission letter at the rate of university’s bank on the day of payment.

Step 4. Pass a medical examination in any clinic in the city of your school in Belarus and get help: On moving into any one of the university hostels; after passing a full medical examination. After registration of the order of admission / admission letter of a foreign applicant signs a contract on training.  After payment of tuition, a foreign student starts studying and receives a student card.
