American College

American College is one of the leading institutions of higher learning in Cyprus. The school was established in 1975 and is located in Nicosia, the capital city of South Cyprus.

South Cyprus is an island which is conveniently located in the Mediterranean, at the intersection of Europe, Asia and Africa. South Cyprus is one of many European countries that belong to the European Union.

Its mission was to provide high-quality education that would satisfy the needs of its students. It started as a private institute teaching accounting and English language and in 1979 it commenced offering its first higher education program of study – the one year program in secretarial studies. In 1985 the College introduced its first two year programs in Business Studies, Computer Studies, Hotel Management and Travel & Tourism.

In 1986 the College established its first academic links with universities abroad and in 1988 American College admitted its first international students. One year later the College started offering its first bachelor degrees and since then there has been a continuous addition of programs of study. In 2005 the College introduced its first postgraduate program – the Master in Business Administration.

Admission fee for application

Applicants are expected to forward a non-refundable admission fee of €100, the moment they send in their application for admission form to the Office of Admissions.

1.  Payments to the college can be made in Euro or in other strong currencies equivalent (e.g. US dollar, GB pound)

2.  When a payment is made via Swift/SEPA transfer and the actual amount received the College is less than the particular amount above (due to exchange rate fluctuations or bank or other charges), final adjustment will be done upon registration of the student with the College (when the student firstly arrives at the College).

Refund Policy

The tuition fees and/or visa deposit are refundable (subject to bank and administration charges) only if the entry visa/permit to Cyprus was denied.

Housing

The prestigious American College is located in Nicosia. This city offers a vast array of accommodation solutions. Several of which are just a stone throw from the College campus. International students and study abroad candidates have the option to rent an off-campus housing or share a school hostel apartment with fellow students.

In addition to all the above courses, the AC also presents non-English speaking foreign students with the perfect intensive English language programs. Enabling both young and mature students to improve or perfect their English language within the shortest possible time.

This courses are designed to thoroughly cover aspects of English language like listening, speaking, writing, grammar and comprehension.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

STEP 1 – APPLYING FOR ADMISSION

Students who wish to apply for admission should submit the following documents when filling the form. They are also expected to pay the application fee to the college. This payment is non-refundable.

For Undergraduates

1. Completed Application for Admission Form.

2. Copy of Passport (only the page(s) that shows your photo, personal details and signature) valid for at least two years from the commencement of classes. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of commencement of classes.

3. Scanned copy of Secondary and Senior Secondary High School Graduation Certificates and Mark Sheets (with a minimum of 50% overall average mark at Senior Secondary).

For Postgraduates

1. Postgraduate applicants do not need to have the minimum of 50% at Senior Secondary as long as they have a minimum of 40% overall average mark at their Bachelor Degree.

2. Scanned copy of Bachelor Degree Certificate and Mark Sheet (applicable only for postgraduate applicants e.g. MBA).

3. Two references (from current and/or former lecturers, employers, and other associates) using the College reference form (applicable only for postgraduate applicants e.g. MBA).

Once we receives the documents listed above along with the application fee, it is processed and then the applicant will receive a certificate of admission from the Office of Admission. This comes along with an Acceptance of Terms and Conditions of Study form. This mostly happens when the student satisfies the admission requirements of the school and program they wish to study.

Transfer of Credits

International students who have done some amount of time in other tertiary institutions may easily transfer credits to the program of study to intend to pursue at the American College. Theregiving them the advantage of reducing the time required to obtain their qualification certificate.

To be entitled to this transfer of credit, foreign students must submit alongside their application for admission, an application to transfer credits. Or the credit transfer procedure can be made during the registration period.

STEP 2 – SENDING THE DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR VISA APPLICATION

Once the applicant receives the Certificate of Admission, they are expected to send the following to the Office of Admissions via courier service:

1.  Attested copies of Secondary and Senior Secondary High School Graduation Certificates and Mark Sheets (with a minimum of 50% overall average mark at Senior Secondary). If the student cannot attest the copies of his/her school documents he/she will need to send the attested original documents.

Postgraduate applicants do not need to have the minimum of 50% at Senior Secondary as long as they have a minimum of 40% overall average mark at their Bachelor Degree.

Attested copies of the Bachelor Degree Certificate and Mark Sheet (applicable only for postgraduate applicants e.g. MBA). If the student cannot attest the copies of his/her academic documents he/she will need to send the attested original documents.

2.  Attested original Medical Examinations report issued no more than 4 months before the application deadline which proves that the student is free from Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B and C, Syphilis and HIV/AIDS. All original medical examination results must be attached. Medical examinations can only be done a governmental medical center (e.g. government hospital). The contact details of the medical center that issued the report must be shown on the report.

3. Attested original No-Criminal Record Certificate issued the local police or Ministry of Home Affairs stating that the applicant has no criminal record. The Certificate must be issued no more than 6 months before the application deadline. In case there is a validity or expiry date written on it,the Certificate should be valid until the date classes commence.

4. Attested original Bank Letter stating that the student’s sponsor has sufficient funds to finance the student’s stay and studies in Cyprus. The student’s name, sponsor’s name and their relationship should appear clearly on the letter. The sponsor can only be the father, mother or a first degree relative of the applicant.

This must be issued no more than six (6) months before the application deadline. If neither the Passport nor the No-Criminal Record Certificate state the relationship between the student and the sponsor then a Certificate of Relationship or an Affidavit or other official documentissued the Police or other official authority stating the relationship between the student and the sponsor must accompany the bank letter.

Please note, this document must also be fully attested. The contact details of the bank that issued the letter must be clearly shown on the letter.

5. Attested original Bank Statement showing that the student’s sponsor maintains a balance of at least €7.000 or the equivalent amount in local currency. This statement must be issued no earlier than one month before the application deadline.

6. One passport size photograph with the applicant’s name written on the back.

7. Attested copy of Passport (only the page(s) that shows your photo, personal details and signature) valid for at least two years from the commencement of classes.

8. Original completed and signed Acceptance of Terms and Conditions of Study form.

Attestation of documents and documents issued in a language other than English

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicants home country should attest the documents followed the Cyprus Embassy, Consulate or High Commission in the same country.Before all this, however, the bank letter and bank statement need to be attested the notary public.

(Note: every page of the bank statement needs to be fully attested; not just the last page).

Documents issued in other languages other than English, should be attested and attached with an original official translation. Contact details of the translator must be shown.

The translated documents must be attested the same way as explained above.

Immediately the school receives all the necessary documents listed above, it will apply to the Cyprus Migration Department for the student’s visa. Bear in mind that this process may take more than 4-5 working days to arrive via a courier service.

STEP 3 – PAYMENT AND SENDING OF VISA

The student should immediately forward payment of their college tuition and other fees once they receive notification from the school about the issuance of their visa.

The school will send the student a copy of their paper visa once they receive the payment.
